Plymouth Artisan Cheese
United States
Founded in 1890 by Colonel John Coolidge, father of President Calvin Coolidge, Plymouth is the second oldest cheese factory in the United States. In 1934 the cheese factory closed, but in 1960, President Coolidge’s son John reopened it. In 1998 John sold the factory to the state of the Vermont, and in 2009 cheesemaker Jesse Werner submitted a proposal to revive the factory along with the original recipe. Jesse and his wife Sarit now run the business and produce this line of historic cheddar-style cheeses. All of their cheese is made with raw milk, using the same base recipe (which you can taste in the Plymouth Original Cheddar), featuring inclusions like Black Truffle or Sage and Herbs. There’s also a Smoked variety and an extra aged version called Hunter. The half pound, wax-coated blocks make an excellent grab & go option!
